My love for edgy fiction began in my preteen years when I couldn’t get enough of Judy Blume’s books. I read and re-read her young adult novels, my favorite being Deenie, about a thirteen year-old girl diagnosed with scoliosis and how she struggled to fit in with her peers.

As an adult, I gravitate toward Christian novels with heavier themes because I love reading how God can work out difficult situations for good. This world is broken, and we all need hope. Stories with authentic characters, real emotion, gripping scenes, and honest dialogue are high on my list. Here is an assortment of my favorite reads.
